October Highlights || blog purge + I’m on YouTube!

October was a month of changes and new beginnings.

This was the first full month I had after officially graduating and navigating my newfound free time was.. interesting. Looking back, it feels like I haven’t done much but I also know that I’ve done a little bit of many things.

In Real Life

I started working on a big 2020 goal! I had very few goals this year as it is but I haven’t really worked on any of them until now. The biggest ones were to socialize more (failed due to COVID-19) and try new hobbies.

Now that I finally have more free time and have decided to slow down on blogging, I used my free time to actually try new things. I got a graphic tablet recently so I decided to truly try my hand at digital art. It’s coming along quite nicely and I love it.

Another new thing is YouTube! I’ve been toying with the idea of making videos for a while now and finally kickstarted it with my Notion tour. It’s been fun so far and I’m looking forward to see what all I can do with it. Do check out my YouTube channel! (and subscribe pleaseee)

I also got to meet my friends (for the first time since March) and IT WAS SO NICE. I met my college friends last week and school friends this week. According to normal standards, we didn’t do much but it meant a lot and really improved my overall mood.

Reading Highlights

My ARCs took a back seat while I (desperately) tried to do my best at multiple readathons and challenges. I will probably make a separate blog post (or video???) with my October reading wrap-up because I have things to say.

I totally read 18 books this month!! The number includes multiple rereads which I needed as comfort reads.

Blogging Highlights

I (finally) started cleaning up my old blog posts. This blog started under a different name with wildly different content and they still exist on this blog for the public. I kept putting cleanup off because it is a huge job. Since I became organized with Notion recently, I finally decided to start the purge and delete old blog posts. A lot of those posts are super cringey and I HATE that they were public until now.

The purge is not done yet because it is a huge task which I’m chipping at slowly. As of now, I’ve deleted about 160 posts and there is much more to be done.

Top posts (that went up in October):

tips on setting up Notion header

My post with tips on Notion is the most popular post of October and I’m super proud of that. A lot people also commented saying its helpful and.. that was my goal so I’m happy.

Notion workspace setup tour with a surprise

Notion posts are popping off haha. My Notion Workspace Tour started as a blog post and eventually became a blog post + video combo which was the beginning of my YouTube channel. My Notion setup is really pretty, if I can say so myself, so do check it out if you haven’t!

is having a blogging niche actually important

This discussion post was the highlight of my blogging in October, in my opinion, because it took the most time to write. It took about two weeks to go from the first draft to the final blog post, and I’m happy with how it turned out.

Blogosphere Highlights

October was a month of GREAT blog posts and choosing what to share here is HARD. If I include all the posts that I liked, this blog post will never end haha. I’m making myself stick to 10 posts, but know that there were many others which I loved.

Other Internet Highlights

My accomplishments:

  • I hit 1k followers on Twitter!!!!! It’s a huge number and getting followers on Twitter is hard, especially with my very random tweets, so this is huge.
  • My YouTube crossed 50 subscribers!! Also over a 100 views on my first 2 videos! Considering I’m new and my videos are of sub-par quality right now, this is too much and I’m very grateful.

Exciting news:

  2. That’s awesome that you’re doing digital art. I actually do a lot of that, and the main reason is so I don’t use a whole lot of paper and because coloring it in is much easier than it is on normal paper.

Best of luck with that and if you need any suggestions for what software to use I can give you some,

  3. First of all congratulations on starting your YouTube channel, I’m already a fan. I love your content, it’s so authentic and perfectly splendid 😊

Also 18 books 😱 how? Also awesome!

I have adored all the notion content you’ve put up! It’s given me ideas and inspiration for my own set up, now with Blogtober over I’m gonna start working on my set up (finally)

Sometimes doing nothing is the best thing you can do, take sometime and rest 💕

I hope you have a great November and happy reading 💕

  5. Eeek thank you for sharing my post Sumedha! I definitely want to eventually use Notion at some point, if only so I can organise my blog a bit better but it’s not a priority since I prefer paper planning to digital. October was such a good month for you, here’s to another wonderful month in November! ❤

    1. No problem!
And I totally understand preferring paper to digital planners. I still maintain my bullet journal and used Notion for only things that I already used other digital apps for. It’s mainly for blogging, but it’s working out great!

Thank you! Hope you have a great November too 💜

  6. Congratulations on everything that you’ve accomplished. Cleaning up all those old blog posts and starting a YouTube channel – that sounds like a great month! I understand the amount of work that can go into a change of niche/topic on a blog. My other blog started with a very broad niche and in the years since, I niched down and shifted focus. Now, I need to go back and do a clean up like you have been doing, I just haven’t brought myself to do it lol

    1. Thank you! Haha yeah, changes involve a lot of clean up and polishing which takes time, but it can be exciting too because the final product will be good 😊

  7. I’m so glad that you had such a wonderful and productive month! Meeting up with friends after not seeing them for months is the absolute best! I got to see some friends sporadically in the past few months, but I feel like I’m overdue for some in person socializing!

Also, I keep hearing about Notion, but I haven’t actually tried it out! I happen to like my haphazard method of keeping track of things, so maybe that’s why I’m not super motivated to look into it further. But I’m happy that if I ever need a resource of how to get started, that I have your posts!

Thank you so much for mentioning my post! Most of my discussions are about topics I’m passionate about, but this post holds a special place in my heart because of how personal it is to me. So I’m very glad that you enjoyed it, and decided to share it with others!

Good luck on your November goals! Purging old blog posts doesn’t sound easy, and must bring back a lot of memories. I hope it goes faster than you anticipate!

    1. Thank you! We’re all overdue for some in person socializing haha. I hope we can soon.

I get that! I liked my method too but I’m also someone who notices where I’m wasting time/effort and using Notion reduced that a ton. Do try it out sometime!

No problem! I really liked your post 💜

      Thank you! I hope you’re having a November 😊
