Life Update // stress, lack of sleep, study, and did I say stress?

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a life update. Although I can name at least name three things I’m supposed to be doing ASAP, I’m writing this post instead because I NEED TO BLOG, OKAY? It’s been about 10 days since I’ve blogged and I miss it. Legit, the only reason you see regular posts is because I wrote and scheduled them during the semester break.

As most updates, this is just me ranting about things and simply talking.

College things

Semester 4 classes started and on the first day we were bombarded with a list of things we’re supposed to do this semester. It’s all good ideas but it leaves almost NO time for extra-curriculars and hobbies. You can see how my blogging took a hit, and my reading has as well.

I think the best part is the mandatory online course we’re supposed to do. Even though I could have joined without it being mandatory, I see the time requirements and back off because I really like having time for leisure activities.

But now that it’s mandatory, I LOVE doing the course. I love that I’m learning new things that I’m interested in and not just for college course credits. Although it’s become a little tough now because of lack of time and lots to do, I’m still liking it.

I’m very picky about other commitments right now, though. Especially according to ARCs and reviews because I can’t say a deadline by when I can do them. To be honest, I started an ARC maybe a week back and I’m still not done. I usually get through books in TWO days, y’all. Sigh.

I think the course is taking most of my time because

  1. I joined a few days late and had to catch up
  2. And the catching up isn’t easy considering I spend maybe 4 hours a week, especially if I’m trying out things myself as well with what I’ve learnt
  3. I don’t know JavaScript so I’m finding understanding somethings harder. I know HTML and CSS but JS is used a lot and I know nothing. I meant to learn the basics in a few days online elsewhere but the assignment deadlines don’t help.

In other news, I like this semester’s subjects better than last semester’s. I’m more willing to study these. We’re also learning Java, which I don’t know, so that’s nice.

Oh speaking of last sem, the results were announced and uh.. I passed. I’m happy I passed in all my subjects and I’m not even going to address how much my GPA is now.

Despite the commitment thing, I accepted a coordinator position in a new tech club in college and I’m pretty excited to see how it goes. Doesn’t hurt that I’m finally actively involved in a club.

Reading things

I actually got a LOT of reading done in the break so I’m pretty ahead in my Goodreads challenge. In fact, I got so ahead that I changed my goal from 100 to 150 books. Now, I’m considering changing back because who knows how much I’ll be able to read.

At this point, despite all the envy due to other book bloggers receiving lots of physical ARCs, I’m actually glad I don’t because that’s one less thing to worry about.

I DO have one physical ARC (currently reading) and two eARCs that I have to read ASAP, though. Other than that, I’m going to take my reading slow.

On the reviewing front, though, I’m hopelessly behind. I was behind before college began and I’m REALLY behind now. I don’t review every book I read but I’m behind even on the books I made review notes on.

Sleep things

My sleep schedule is completely off-kilter.

I slept around 1 am until 10 am in the break, catching up on sleep, and suddenly when college started I had to wake up at 6 am again. That was a shock. Now I’m actually too tired to stay awake late. I do if I’ve got work, but otherwise I’m out cold by midnight.

Who ever told that 6-7 hours of sleep was enough for young adults did NOT know what they were talking about. I read it somewhere online when I googled required amount of sleep once. Yeah, that’s a total lie. Especially with the amount of work we do now.

But then, don’t all college students whine about lack of sleep even though we spend the time we could be sleeping doing something else? *shrug*

Soo yeah that’s it. I came just to type up a quick post because I really don’t have any more time to talk more. My life = college college college. I’ve actually been so busy I haven’t even used my bullet journal for over a week!

But tell me about you! What’s going on in your life? It’s been a while since I’ve done a general post and I want to get updated on y’all’s lives. Did you do anything new recently? Are you keeping up on your resolutions? How has February been so far for you? Type up a storm in the comments!

  1. Sorry you are having a tough time with your sleep schedule. I have a lot of challenges in that department as well and now I have started waking up even more in the night when critical things are happening at work. Ie- our system table moves occur between 1am and 2am now I don’t sleep for that hour for some reason.

As you get a bit older you won’t need that much sleep. I run on about five hours or less with having to get up for work at 4am. Things will get better I promise! It’s also pretty great to hear all the programming you are learning. I don’t know anything about it and I wish I did!

    1. I would hate to be in your position, waking up for an hour on the night! Kudos to you for managing on such less sleep. And I’m glad to hear things get better, I need that reaffirmation 😅

  2. Thanks for the update!! Sorry you are having some stress due to sleep and all. I’m happy that you love the college courses you’re taking this semester. I think it’s so important to have a general interest in what you’re studying or it’ll be harder to do the work. But kudos to you. Keep doing what you’re doing and the rest will come 🌷

    1. Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I’m definitely going to be working harder this semester and I need the motivation 😅

  3. I am right there with you on the college front. The past few weeks have been crazy with homework while trying to stay on top of reading books I have to review. One thing that I found helped relieve some stress on the reviewing front is doing a mini-reviews post. This way I don’t have to worry about falling behind on books or having the review posted a month or two after I actually finished the book.

I hope the rest of your semester goes well!
