First, let’s establish the fact that MY MEMORY SUCKS. I literally don’t remember what I had for dinner last night. I also have a suspicion that things in my brain evaporate when I sleep because how else can I explain that I don’t remember anything I studied last night for this morning’s test?? I need to remember to pass, brain! STOP TRASHING STUFF.
This week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl is Books I Really Liked but Can’t Remember Anything/Much About and this is super easy. This ALSO very coincidentally ties up to a ranty post I made a couple weeks back called 10 reasons why remembering books is crucial for us book lovers.
So yeah, this is going to be easy.
[1] The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
I couldn’t even remember the main character Clary’s nickname!!!!!!! All I remember from the first 5 books is that Clary is stupid, Jace has a STRONG jawline and Malec was OTP.
I think about rereading but let’s be honest. It’s long, I hate Clary and only tolerate Jace. I can’t stick through six books all over again. Even if it’s been my main fandom for 4 years. I’d much rather reread The Dark Artifices and break my heart repeatedly.
[2] Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Let me tell you what I remember about the story: NOTHING. I am not kidding.
I remember that it broke my heart, I cried for approximately 2 hours and was on a book hangover for the next week because I was healing my broken heart. But I remember nothing about the plot.
[3] Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Brilliant book. Very mysterious, kept me on the edge and was amazing. But it would probably help if I remembered anything about the plot.
I remember one twist in the end but nothing else. I haven’t watched the movie yet, though. I should probably get to that in this semester break.
[4] All books by Dan Brown
Dan Brown’s stories are wonderful and brilliantly weaved together but I remember not ONE WORD from his books. ANY of them. I’ve read all of them except Origin, which is the latest one. I can’t muster up the enthusiasm because 1) it’s HUGE and 2) I’m not in the mood.
Yes, I totally recommend his books to people without remembering a thing. A round of applause to me.
[5] All books by John Grisham
I haven’t read too many books by him, but I’ve read enough. I know that I liked them a lot and they were different to the books I was reading before, making it all the more interesting, but I remember only one ending from one of the books.
Someday when I’m a bored by fantasy and romance again, I’m definitely picking up more of his books.
[6] House of Night series by P.C. and Kristen Cast
Don’t ask me why I liked this series so much. I don’t know why. Even I can’t believe that I actually stuck through all TWELVE books. I actually waited 5 years to read the books as they came out till the end.
Now that I look back, the series was really slow, really cringey (from the sparse scenes that I DO remember) and I probably liked it because it was my first fantasy series and first one with vampires.
All I remember is the goddess Nyx, the fallen angel who’s stupid, the main character who’s very embarrassing and romances which would give me lots of cringe now.
[7] All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
To be honest, I didn’t enjoy the first half of the book because it traced the lives of the main characters from an early age and I was really bored. I only kept reading because it was set around World War 2.
I remember the scene where the two main characters met and the ending. But the rest has disappeared from my brain. And those are the only scenes that were really memorable and evoked emotion, so I’m glad I remember those at least.
[8] Where Are the Children by Mary Higgins Clark
One of my mom’s colleagues lent me this book when she found out that I loved reading. I’m not very into mystery but the book was small and I agreed to read it to appease her. And also because I had no other books to read anyway.
I ended up loving it.
It’s short but packed fully with action, mystery and gave me exhilaration.
I only remember one of the last scenes very well because it made a LOT of impression on me. The others are very murky in my head. But yeah, loved it and I totally recommend it.
[9] The Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi
I’m not a very religious person so when I picked this up, I did it with skepticism. It surprised me with the imagination and how much the author took liberty to change the story, but mostly because I actually liked it. I binge read the trilogy as fast as I could since I had to go to the library and exchange books every time.
All I remember is a couple facts from the second book. That’s it. I wish I remembered more.
I CAN come up with more books that I hardly remember but I’d like to stop now. This is making me disappointed that I don’t remember books I really liked! And gave 5 stars! Shaking my head at myself right now.
Are there any books that you really liked but hardly remember anything about? Do you wish you DID remember? Or do you reread them anyway and so remember the plots? Tell me everything in the comments. Also don’t forget to add the link to your TTT if you’ve published!
I almost like when I don’t remember them so I can read them again ❤️

That’s true! It makes rereading the best because you KNOW you’ll love it 😊

I’m kind of the same way with HP because I just finished GOF and I couldn’t remember a lot of plots from the first half. Trying to figure it all out and puzzle things together was tough haha 😛

Haha I binge read HP in a week or so and never reread 😂 I hardly remember anything as well

I can see how it would be hard to remember everything about Harry Potter. I binge read the series, so I don’t remember much about individual books, but I remember more about the characters and the plot of the series as a whole. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

Completely forgot the whole house of night series, can’t even remember any character names though I read the whole series 😂🙈 same with the mortal instruments, though i’ve only read the first three books. Maybe i’ll re-read those and continue some day

Haha yeah I relate on both. But honestly, I’m not that sad about not remembering HoN? The little that I do remember, I cringe at 😌
