I read a lot of books in 2017. Over 200. Goodreads says my average rating is 3.4 but that does not mean I didn’t read AMAZING books, just that everything else paled in comparison to those brilliant ones.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is top 10 new-to-me authors I read in 2017. Btw, the meme has been hosted by The Broke and The Bookish until now but from NEXT WEEK they’re handing over to The Artsy Reader Girl. So take note, TTT-ers.
Onto the new authors.
[1] Christina Lauren
This is actually the pen name of two writer friends who write together. I read two of their books—Autoboyography and Roomies and I really liked both of them.
[2] Penny Reid
I read her book Friends Without Benefits first but later I read the first book of the same series, Neanderthal Seeks Human, and I LOVED IT. Definitely going to be reading rest of the books in the series.
[3] Francesca Zappia
She BLEW ME AWAY with Eliza and Her Monsters. I am in awe and I will DEFINITELY read other books by her. I should just get around to them, lol. #TBRtoohuge
[4] Lois Lowry
I read her The Giver series, and I especially loved the first book. Absolutely brilliant and one of my best reads last year.
[5] E. Lockehart
We Were Liars, which was one of my first reads last year, BROKE MY HEART. I was a sobbing mess in the end. I haven’t picked up the new book Genuine Fraud yet, but I’m hoping to this year.
[6] Becky Albertalli
I read her books Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda (movie to release soon!) and The Upside of Unrequited last year and I really liked both of them. One of my favourite contemporary writers now.
[7] Sandhya Menon
She’s a debut author so no surprise there. I read her book When Dimple Met Rishi and also the ARC for From Twinkle, With Love (review to come soon). I love that she’s writing on Indian characters and it makes me so happy to see Indian elements referenced.
[8] Michelle Schlicher
I received a review copy for her book Me & Milo the Great and it was SO MUCH BETTER than I expected. I ended up giving it 5 stars.
[9] Jodi Picoult
I hadn’t read her book My Sister’s Keeper before and I picked it up on insistence by one of my friends. It was brilliant. I haven’t watched the movie yet because I’m sure it’ll break my heart and I’m NOT ready for it.
[10] V.E. Schwab
I had seen the buzz about her books before but I picked up A Darker Shade of Magic only a while before the third (and last) book of the series released, so I won’t die of suspense. I LOVED IT. SHE IS QUEEN. My dream is to own the whole series someday.
And with that, my list ends. I have to REALLY go study now for my final tomorrow. Blogging is my reprieve in breaks. Wish me luck!
