Signed, sealed, delivered…

While spacing out in chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk and added a message to her. Intrigue!

Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters—sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she’s kind of falling for this letter writer. Only, who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can’t always be spelled out…

I had marked this on my list on Goodreads immediately when I read the synopsis late last year. Finally, it released and it was totally worth it! The last few books put me into a slight reading slump. I read them but wasn’t that interested and didn’t make an effort to read much. But for this book I took out time between classes, while walking and while travelling to read.

The Plot

  • One day in a boring Chemistry class, Lily doodles a lyric on her desk and the next day, she sees that someone has written the next line. These two start exchanging song recommendations and soon, delve into life.
  • But who is this mystery guy whom she’s perfect with on paper? When she finds out, she literally flips.

I found out pretty soon who the person was and I think the author didn’t try to conceal it either. even though it was written from Lily’s POV and she was clueless, we got it. I’m so glad that the “mystery” wasn’t dragged on and on. I never got bored or irritated.

The Characters

  • Lily Abbott is the average weird girl in high school. She has a quirky personality, I loved the way she thought and I totally delved into her when reading. She doesn’t have a dark past or wasn’t in depression. She’s just passionate about music and writes songs.
  • I’m not going to talk much about the mystery man much because shushh, his identity is supposed to be a secret! But I’ll tell ya this, he’s cute and nice. Iridescence, which male MC isn’t?! Yeah yeah I know, don’t be angry.
  • Lily’s family was the best part of the book for me. They were supportive, loving, also irritating and hella fun. Family goals.

The Romance

  • Aww how cuuute. I’m still having that cutesy feeling so yeah, this is the first point.
  • There was relationship development which is always a major issue for me, so I’m happy. When they finally told “I like you”, I melted. Why doesn’t something like this happen to me?
  • We even got glimpses of their relationship after they got together and I’m very grateful for that. Usually YA books stop after the couple start dating.

As always, Kasie West’s books gave me cutesy feels and made me feel good about high school relationships. They can actually be cute and perfect! I’m sure it was books like these which made me have too many expectations to date in high school and I ended up never dating 😛

Go read this book. I totally recommend it.

  1. ooh, I want to read this eventually!! I’ve only read ONE Kasie West book and I feel that’s somewhat of a bookworm shame.😂 Her writing is so good and this one sounds cute and fun. 😉 I’m glad, if the mystery-man was so obvious, that it didn’t drag that out. That’s a relief, too. hehe.
