I didn’t read this book with an intention of reviewing it so forgive me if the review is jumbled and not structured as usual.
Title: Suffer Love
Author: Ashley Herring Blake
Genre: YA contemporary
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Synopsis:
“Just let it go.”
That’s what everyone keeps telling Hadley St. Clair after she learns that her father cheated on her mother. But Hadley doesn’t want to let it go. She wants to be angry and she wants everyone in her life—her dad most of all—to leave her alone.
Sam Bennett and his family have had their share of drama too. Still reeling from a move to a new town and his parents’ recent divorce, Sam is hoping that he can coast through senior year and then move on to hassle-free, parent-free life in college. He isn’t looking for a relationship…that is, until he sees Hadley for the first time.
Hadley and Sam’s connection is undeniable, but Sam has a secret that could ruin everything. Should he follow his heart or tell the truth?
My review:
It started off pretty confusing, with the events and what was going on. I caught on properly only after the first chapter but it was filled to understand Hadley and how she is now. Similarly, the second chapter is about Sam and his status at present in life. They both have recently moved into town and apparently, they’ve got history, Hadley just doesn’t know it.
The “secret” mentioned in the synopsis is shown to us pretty quickly since it was dual POV. I liked that it was dual POV and not single because the insight into Sam’s life was important. Usually for stories like this if authors make it single POV, they follow it up with a sequel or novella showing the other MC’s POV.
Another thing I liked was that the male MC wasn’t so dumb that he didn’t put together things and clues to determine how he is connected to Hadley. Hadley, since she doesn’t KNOW, is pretty clueless but Sam figures out very fast, which was appropriate.
Plot: 4/5 stars
I really liked the plot! How even if both families move away, sometimes they might just end up in the same place. The deceit, tragedy and circumstances was perfect.
Character: 5/5 stars
They were formed really well. From distrust to affection to care to relationships to secrets- everything was just right. The characters other than the MCs like their best friends and family were on point. I can’t find out a plothole or any unbalance in character.
Romance: 5/5 stars
Not too much, not too less – perfect amount of cuteness in, the dash of hanging out with friends and dates, there was understanding and sharing woes.
Overall, a really good YA contemporary book, and possibly one of my favourites. I’m putting her near to Colleen Hoover, people, that’s huge! Definitely recommended if you like the genre.
Nice review!

I will try! I’m trying to stray away from buying books right now because I have so many ARCs to read and so little time. 😦
